About Loft & Strand

Born on the Waterfront

Every Loft & Strand piece begins with rope that has earned its character.

We source our materials from RiggingOnly, a professional marine rigging operation based in New England. When a yacht is re-rigged or a commercial vessel refitted, the decommissioned rope — still strong, still beautiful — would otherwise end up in a landfill. We give it a second life.

From Dock to Design

Marine-grade rope is engineered to hold fast under extraordinary conditions — saltwater, UV exposure, thousands of pounds of tension. That same durability and texture makes it an exceptional raw material for everyday accessories.

Each piece is hand-finished with solid brass hardware, chosen for its warm patina that deepens with age. We splice, whip, and bind using the same techniques that have secured lines to cleats for centuries. No glue. No shortcuts. Just rope, hardware, and craft.

New Bedford to Newport

Our roots run deep in New England’s maritime tradition — from the whaling ports of New Bedford to the yacht clubs of Newport. This coastline built an industry on rope, canvas, and brass. Loft & Strand carries that heritage forward, one accessory at a time.

The “loft” is the sail loft — the workshop where riggers have worked rope for generations. The “strand” is both the beach and the individual fibers twisted together to form a line. Together, they represent where we come from and what we’re made of.

What We Believe

  • Materials matter. Every piece starts with rope that was built to perform, not manufactured to decorate.
  • Craft over mass production. Small batches, hand-finished, individually inspected.
  • Stories worth wearing. When someone asks about your belt or your dog’s collar, you have a real answer.
